I guess I'm a BAR, reborn into HPR. I did Estes stuff (and still do) when I was young through high school, but lost interest after going to college at Virginia Tech. After getting my first job in Fort Walton Beach, FL I got back into it after I saw a few launches in Alabama. Right now I move between cities every few years because of my job, therefore I get exposed to rocketry in different areas. I did my L1 cert with SEARS in southern Alabama and did my L2 where I currently live in Dayton, OH. Soon I will be moving back to the south to San Antonio, TX and will be looking for a new club. My fiance' Stephanie comes to my launches and actually enjoys them. She's a great camera-woman.
I Can Provide Expertise On:
Electronic Bays for small rockets (2" to 3") and dual deployment
Thanks. I'm planning to do my cert flight in April or May. The flight at LDRS was a test flight and a dry run on the prep.
That M650 is, from what I've heard, a really cool motor. I missed one in June at a launch here, but the rocket simmed out around 20K. You'll have to let me know how the Hyperloc is as a kit and how your L3 goes.
I launched my L3 on an L1080BB to just under 4K. It was an awesome flight. Unfortunately the main came out at apogee and it fell for about 5 minutes. I need bigger sheer pins. I added some pictures from LDRS.
At some point in the spring I'm going to try that airstart again. Thanks for the advice.
Bryan could I ask you to send me the photos of your E-bay? and why did you choose the Mawd? Darrell seems to prefer the RRC2- mini . Im just looking for one thats the most user friendly. (for the brand new guy)
We were able to launch for the first time in a couple months, and my TAP approved my L3 for the final construction.
You seem to have some luck with staging/airstarts. A friend and I tried to do an airstart yesterday, but didn't get the outboard F40s to light. We used a G-Wiz LCX and Wildman's Little 'Uns to light them, but nothing fired. Another club member has had problems lighting Little 'Uns as well. Any advice? Is it the ignitor?
I was able to tour the department when we were out there in June. Think of what we could use it for. Anyone I've talked to about VT has said it's been a good school and fun to be at. I'm crossing my fingers.
Are you going to be at LDRS? I'm going to be getting my L3 rocket into the air as a test flight before I certify next spring.
does the monocote applied in the same fasion as model aircraft? Ironing on and useing a heat gun to shrink? Any trim solvent used? thanks in advance to the help -Scott
I had thought since this was gonna be my first HPR I would order the kit with dyna-wind tubing so that I didnt focus all my time on glassing the air-frame. In your photo your rocket seems to have a glare. Did you use mono-cote? your review didnt mention anything about finish, and I have never seen shine like that out of a can. Great review by the way....
Bryan, what can you share with me about your E.V. 2.6? Did you glass the airframe? Any construction tips. I have read the review by Darrell but I still want more input. Thanks for your time - Scott
Hi Bryan. Harry Keyes gave you some good information about Texas rocketry. I've also send you a private e-mail regarding information about hobby rocketry in Central Texas. I look forward to meeting you!
Bryan, your welcome to come fly with POTROCS. Check our launch schedule on the club web site potrocs.org over in the links section. We cut back on the number of launches that are held here which works out to having a bigger turnout. There are some new photos and videos in the media section.
There are links to some of the Texas rocketry clubs in the links section as well. Hook up with the club in San Antonio and you'll meet some nice and experienced rocketeers. (Ray Kinsel of LaVenia) If you look at our list of club members, you'll see that there are a lot of people who come from all over to fly here. There are several people in the San Antonio, Austin, Midland, and Houston areas who have flown some really nice rockets here. The research launches and high altitude waiver of 50,000 ft. are the draw. We had a propellant safety class the day before the CANSAT National launch.
Email me off the planet at shotoneup@yahoo.com and I'll fill you with more info about flying here.
