Profile Information

I Belong To:
National Association of Rocketry
About Me:
I discovered rocketry when I was 48. I was doing airplanes with my daughter and spending time in hobby shops. My daughter said what about a rocket? I said no we do airplanes. Then I broke down and tried one. It has been non stop ever since. I quickly found South East Alabama Rocketry Society. SEARS was launching out of Headland, AL. They had several advanced fliers that taught me a lot. So I progressed to the D & E rockets. Then I flew those rockets on F reloads. I made level 1 with a BSD Diablo at Lilly GA.
My level 2 rocket was a BSD Thor setup for dual deployment. It had redundant altimeters. So good experience with electronics and charges. It flew successful on a J350 at Samson, AL.
So now something different. I did a Odd Roc Scratch rockets; Big Boy and a Tubular Crayon. Then i got intothe Applewhite 18 inch Saucer and 54mm Stealth.
I got introduced to hybrids with the 38mm Skyripper System. I built a Giant Leap Fire Storm 54 which I flew on the H and I hybrids. I later flew the FireStorm on a J570 for an altitude of 7315 feet.
After the 2006 Florida Winter Nationals I decided it was time for the Level 3 Project. I based by L3 on a Mega-Nuke design by Smokin Rockets. I had the parts supplied by Red Arrow. I decided to name it Mighty Mo in honor of my Dad's love for Threatre Organ music. The Mighty Mo is an theatre organ at the Atlanta Fox Theatre. The airframe was covered with on layer of Aerosleeves. It has a 98mm motor tube. There are two altimeters and a timer. Rick Boyette was my L3CC member. I flew it successfully on a AMW 1350 White Wolf at the 2007 Florida Winter Nationals. I was blessed to get a center-fold pictures in Extreme Rocketry with a picture taken by Mark Canepa. I have also had the good fortune to fly the Mighty Mo with M motors at Southern Thunder 2007 and at Samson, AL for SEARS.
My rocketry experience would not have happened without SouthEast Alabama Rocketry Society(SEARS). I have many friends there to share rocketry with. I become their president and update the SEARS website. The field in Samson is a real treasure. Thanks to Mr. Green for letting us launch there.
My Website:

Applewhite 54mm Stealth Kits are Available!

You can order one here. I have some build photos of the beta here. I have flown mine three times successfully all on the K550. Anyone want to drag race Stealth 54s? Perhaps at the 2008 Florida Winter Nationals.

On-Board Video Blooper

Bloopers do attract the most attention. I launched an Oregon Scientific ATC-2K Action Cam on my PML 4 inch AMRAAM. The flight was great but to our surprise the camera was missing from the rocket. I did not see it fall off and many of my fellow SEARS members helped me search. I gave up on it, packed up and left. After meeting the guys for a early supper I decided the $130 investment was too much to lose. We went back to the field an I found it. My thoughts were "found" but would it have the vi…

Greg's Hangar 11 ProLine X15 Kit Build

I was very impressed with the Hangar 11 ProLine X15 kit I saw in Extreme Rocketry. So I have ordered one from Bobby B at Hangar 11. It is 6 inches diameter and 6 feet long! I am documenting the build in this Discussion

The picture below is Chris Prinzi’s X-15.…

The Rocket Stage

I am the owner of the YouTube group called the The Rocket Stage. Members of the group can add their videos or any of their favorites. There are over 200 videos so I am creating playlists for different categories, like on-board videos. YouTube will let you create players for playlists, but I found a better player on splashcast.net! Give it a try. Be sure to roll the mouse over the player to see its options. The YouTube playlists are Shows…

Thanks Greg! I was glad to see you on this site. I was sad to leave FL but was happy to see so many SEARS members at Southern Thunder this year. That was my first "big" launch and it was awesome!

Well hello
I see that we have a lot in common I was once big time into RC model aircraft, I lost everything during hurricane Wilma. And it was hard to get back into it. My heart was not there. While digging thru some of my old childhood stuff, I was again bitten by the rocket bug. Hence the start of a new beginning, I love to build them fly them and at times I really get a joy when I get them back. (Rocket eating tree monsters), and as the story goes, when I not building or flying I’m researching because I have no idea what I’m doing.

Greg,
It's good to build a strong rocket. Personally, I am known for building tanks. In fact, I have often thought I could save some money and replace all my chutes with plastic streamers. ;-}

The folks at the wintenats are great. Lots of fun. It is especially good because you get to meet people from all over the country. And the field is great. It is so big, even I don't lose my rockets....

Greg,
I am also eagerly awaiting the Winternats. They have a planning meeting next weekend. The buzz is that they are planning a third day for research stuff. The ex community is growing down here, so it would be a good chance to see some unusual stuff. BTW, don't think I had a chance to congratulate you on your Level 3. I was all caught up with Roger Noss and his cert flight.
