About Me:
I am just getting back into rocketry after being away for 10 years. I am 46 years old and work as an EMC Technician for the Chrysler Corperation. I was a member of the Project HALO team a few years ago. My Dad worked for the Alabama Space and Rocket center until retirement in the 70's. I grew up hanging out at the space center during the summer and days that I was not in school. As a kid I opend the gates for the bus drivers that gave the tours of Marshal Space Flight Center (my first job).
My Interests:
Designing and testing Hybrid motors
Scratch Building Rockets
Flying Radio Control Jets and helicopters.
Racing Formula 500 Cars with the SCCA
Things I'd Like To Do:
Go To LDRS and the BALLS launch.
Favorite Rockets:
Saturn 5
Saturn 1B
Favorite Music:
Older Rock

I do not like Rap.....
Favorite TV Shows:

Gene:

The callisto is a good choice because you will have enough room for the radius of the vent tube. I would just select a hole at the longest position of the SRS 29 set, then have excess 1/8" tubing (lifetime supply from McMaster Carr is under 10 bucks) for the shorter motors.
For the 2 smaller sizes, feed the vent through the hole in the body tube down through the motor mount to your motor. Insert the tube in the vent hole of the motor (already has the 38/29 adapter on it) and shove it back up and trim off the excess tubing. Alternatively, for a 29mm Callisto, don't put the rear closure on and feed the motor in backwards through the motor mount with the vent tube already attached.

Welcome back to rocketry! I have been flying most of the existing hybrid systems for the past 8 years. My favorite motor is the RATT L/M. I also have the RATT H70, I80, and I90, Hypertek 54mm line, and Hypertek 1440cc and 2800cc L's. I have been unsuccessful in getting my Contrail J to fly. Kendall Brent (also on this Planet) is very good at them.
If you are interested in EX hybrids, I do recommend the Contrail because of the flexibility. Lots of nozzle choices and injector choices. Also, the standard 54mm casting tubes and liners fit the hardware, so you can make your own fuel.

Gene Any advice for someone who is thinking about getting into RC planes. I've been looking at the electrics - mainly flying wings. I've been told by some friends to pick something slow to start off with. I just don't know if I would be satisfied unless I found something that handled well. Any suggestions??

So that everyone knows, In the videos that I have posted so far the Hybrid motors were not designed by me! They were designed by the project HALO team. I was part of that team but I mostly poured the fuel grains and worked on the electonics for the rocket and the test stand. I put these up because most people in the rocketry world have never seen any ot them or the testing phase of Project HALO. Full credit goes to Tim Pickens and the HALO team.

Likewise on the hybrids. Do you mean static testing or flight testing?

Gene, thanks for the comments back. I have been around for a while, but I have been hearing your name for a while as well. I think that tells us one thing: we are getting older! ;)

Perhaps we'll meet someday in 'Bama!

Nice jets - I heard they were hard to fly. Good looking rockets too. Can you give more info on your hybrid motor work?
