Congratulation! Welcome to high power!
Cool Beans Whit! Very nice flight. Did you do both the apogee and main deployment off the tail-end (fin) side of the rocket? Is that Grippo seen down below helping set up on the pad? Harry

Greetings from bayou country,

I live here in South Louisiana. I fly rockets with Tripoli Louisiana and South Louisiana Rocketry. I have been building and flying rockets for 33 years off and on. I still remember the day my Dad came home with an Estes catalog in 1973. I was into plastic models at the time and I remember the first words out of my mouth were. "Do these models really fly?" Well next step was the purchase of the "Deluxe Starter Set" and the building of my first rocket the Estes Astron Alpha. I'll never forget the feeling I had as the Alpha left the pad for the first time. I still get the same chill to this day. I built a 4x upscale of that same rocket in honor of my 30 years in rocketry. I discovered APCP motors in the mid eighties. I dabbled in mid-power but went back to low power when the hobby shop closed. Then in 2002 I discovered High Power. But I still like to build and fly rockets in the low and mid ranges. Here are some of my memories and accomplishments over the years.

While on vacation in Colorado I got to tour Estes Rockets and meet Vern Estes. I got to push the button on a demo flight there. This was in 1977. When I got home from vacation I think I built almost every rocket in the catalog.

Flying my first APCP motor. In 1987 the local hobby shop started carrying Aerotech motors and LOC kits. I saved up and bought a LOC Graduator and some F and G motors. I was surprised at the power the new motors had. Then one day I lost the rocket to a G motor flight. Then the hobby shop that was carrying LOC and AT went out of business and I was back to low power.

I found LOC and Aerotech again while searching the internet in 2001. Shortly after I found NAR/SoLaR and Triploi/TRA-LA. I got my Level 1 in Oct. 2002. at a TRA-LA "High Cotton" launch.

I was elected Secretary of both SoLaR and TRA-LA in 2003. I work hard to promote both clubs through the internet and print as well as handling normal club business duties.

I got a 100 on my L2 test and successfully flew L2 in February of 2004.

I attended LDRS25 in 2006 and successfully flew my Level 3 flight to an altitude of 12,400' my highest flight to date.

I'm looking forward to many more good times. I hope to see you at a launch soon.

We had another successful High Cotton Launch here in Louisiana. The weather was perfect. The field was perfect and the rockets were hung high. With a 14,000' waiver and perfect visability we were able to air things out. Here is a list of my flights.

Wow! What a weekend!

Wow! What a weekend. We smashed all records for Tripoli Louisiana this weekend! We launched 39 flights on Saturday and 38 on Sunday for a total of 77 flights. The average impulse on Sunday was higher due to 4 Ks, 1 L and 1 M. This was the most successful launch we have ever had. The… Continue

Whitney,
They were a film crew from "Backroads of Montana", a TV program on our local PBS. They spent the day filming at our April launch last year, and filmed EVERYTHING!! It really was an enjoyable day, and the program generated a fair amount of positive publicity for the hobby, and our little club here in Montana. By the way, I'm planning on launching my 2" CF project on a CTI L730, and I'll be restarting my Level 3 project...Estimated Launch date will be 6/18.

Hi Whitney:
I only make custom size nosecones for manufacturers who order 30 or more. There is just too much time and money involved to make one or two nosecones. Also right now I just have too many orders for nosecones I already have to offer. Thanks for the inquiry.

Hi Whitney:
I was referring to Jerry Irvine of US Rockets on a comment that he had made about supplying me with plugs for nosecones, and saying that I never sent them back. He only supplied one plug. I made the mold and promptly sent it back to him. Thankyou for the compliment on my work.

Hey Whitney!
Good to hear from you!

missed you guys too. I was there in "spirit"---I checked out all the videos/photos...looks like I missed a Great launch.

Been a little busy lately (family/business/the farm—we had some tornado damage/ and admittedly other frivolous activities—working on pimping up an old convertible) but starting to get the "bug" a bit lately.
In fact, I built a 7x29mm motor mount the other day.....I’m thinking 1 H-180 and 6-g77’s, all lit on the ground with electronics (slim shot) for deployment…..speaking o f which….finally sent mine off for the upgrade….. got my “new improved” version back on Friday… they put a big honkin’ capacitor on the back of the circuit board—anyway, that’s go me thinking about doing some rebuilds from last time’s carnage…..
Looks like I'm a "no go" for LDRS again this year.....
Starting to miss it…keep on keeping on---the video was awesome!
For now, I’ll have to live vicariously though you…
I’ll be back soon…

Hey Whit, nice page! I have not flown a rocket in sometime, but seeing all the fun stuff, here may have rejuvenated the AP bug again, thanks for sharing.

Great video. My Vulcanite is just about done as far as the minor zipper repair. I have to sand down the wood filler on the outside of the body and then repaint the entire top 2-3" of the Vulcanite and it should be ready by the May 10th launch.
